Security Design Services provide our clients with a comprehensive range of fire detection systems to suit their individual requirements, including initial design, installation and maintenance.
Fire alarm systems fall into two main categories, the basic break glass or manual fire alarm system and the automatic detection system. The manual alarm system, which consists of break glass units and alarm sounders connected to a control panel, can only be operated and the alarm raised, when activated by an individual having detected a fire incident. The automatic system which consists of smoke and heat detectors, in addition to break glass units and alarm sounders connected to a control panel, is designed to raise the alarm whether or not personnel are present at the time, thus giving an early warning of a fire incident.
The full design criteria for fire alarm and detection systems is laid down in BS5839: Part 1: 1988 which includes spacing requirements for various types of detectors and alarms.
